From staff reports Wilson Times WILSON - In a clash of teams in the top 10 of the state 4-A rankings, No. 7 Raleigh Broughton flattened No. 2 Wilmington New Hanover 4-0 in opening round action at The Brittany Willis Scholarship Soccer Showcase at Gillette Soccer Complex. The Caps (2-0-1) got their first taste just two minutes into the match as Bjorn Johnsen scored on a pass from Tyler Fitzgerald. Six minutes before halftime, Lassiter Tollison fed Harrison Delbridge for a 2-0 lead. Tollison notched both second-half goals for Broughton on passes from John Pace and Blair Capel. New Hanover dropped to 0-2. T.C. ROBERSON 3, SWANSBORO 0 In another matchup of highly regarded opponents, Asheville T.C. Roberson blanked Swansboro as Andrew Price netted a pair of goals. Connor Noonan tacked on the Rams' final score in their season opening win. Swansboro fell to 1-1. HICKORY 4, NORTHERN NASH 1 Drake Fisher scored twice and Banks Anderson had a goal and an assist in the first half for the Tornadoes. Michael Delong closed out the scoring for Hickory while Isai Gonzales had the Knights' lone goal. JACKSONVILLE 2, CARDINAL GIBBONS 1 Patrick Lynch and Jimmy Johnson had goals less than two minutes apart to break a scoreless tie early in the second half. The Crusaders' Stephen Quindlen cut the margin in half but that was as close as they could get in losing their season debut. The Cardinals departed 2-0. WAYNE COUNTRY DAY 3, FRANKLINTON 0 Tyson Pearson had two goals and Brett Siebel added another for the Chargers (2-0). It was the second loss to start the season for the Red Rams, ranked 10th among state 2-A squads. WEST CARTERET 3, WEST BRUNSWICK 0 Alex Godette slammed in a pair of goals while Ian Cader added a third and an assist for the Patriots. Cam Wainwright had an assist. LANEY 7, SOUTH VIEW 1 Wilmington Laney got a hat trick (three goals) from Ryan MaGee as it bombarded Hope Mills South View, whose lone goal came from Robby Jones. Also scoring for the Buccaneers was Nick Saenez, Robbie Baptista, Ryan MacPherson and Wey-Wey Su. WEST JOHNSTON 4, D.H. CONLEY 3 Trailing 3-1 at halftime, West Johnston got three goals and a shutout in the second half to win. Mike Molineaux netted the decisive goal while Justin Wadia and Audric Berger also scored in the second half. Jonathon Pedrozo scored the first goal of the game for the Wildcats. Victor Montes sandwiched a pair of goals around one by teammate Rakim Tice for Conley. ST. STEPHENS 3, ROANOKE RAPIDS 1 After spotting Roanoke Rapids a 1-0 lead on Timmy Walls' goal, the Indians scored three unanswered goals. Jackson Pitofsky tied the match in the 33rd minute before second-half scores from Andrew Zachrich and Mitchell Cole. GREEN HOPE 2, EAST CHAPEL HILL Cary Green Hope, ranked No. 3 among 4-A teams, had a goal in each half to improve to 2-0.
